MCnet is going to be reactivated

Dear MCnet members,

MCnet is going to be reactivated. It will continue as a key area at the School of History, Cultural Research and Arts Studies. The Network is coordinated by the Department of Comparative Religion. Old and new partners are asked to join in.

Professor Matti Kamppinen is going to give a short introduction to the ongoing plans in next Turku Ethnicity and Migration Research Network (TEMREN) -seminar on 15th February 2017. You are very welcome to participate this event.

Dear Turku Ethnicity and Migration Research Network (TEMREN) members,

Our first meeting of 2017 will be on 15th February 2017 (at 10.00-12.00) in School of History, Culture and Arts Studies, University of Turku.

The meeting takes place in Minerva-building, room E325, 3rd floor, Sirkkala campus, Kaivokatu 12 ( building T52 in the campus map).

The programme includes a short opening, where professor Matti Kamppinen launches the reactivated Network for Research on Multiculturalism and Societal Interaction (MCnet) that started its activities already in the Fall of 2010 with strategic funding by the University of Turku and will continue as a key area at the School of History, Cultural Research and Arts Studies. The Network is coordinated by the Department of Comparative Religion and new partners are asked to join in.

The programme continues with three highly interesting presentations and the related discussions:

Dr Hanneleena Hieta (European Ethnology): “Finnish American entrepreneurs and Transnational families. Two ethnological field projects”.

Dr Tuomas Hovi (Folkloristics): “From a joke to a tradition. Celebrating Finnishness with St. Urho”.

PhD-student Riina Keto-Tokoi (Comparative Religion): “Islam Unfettered, Control Retained: The Educational Policy of Teaching Islam in Turkey”.

The event is chaired by Professor Helena Ruotsala.
